The Photonic Neuron

In the fall of 2012, I contributed to Professor Paul Prucnal's Photonic Neuron Project. The project aims to use laser technology to create a neuron-like device that is capable of performing computation similar to the way in which the cells in organisms' brains function. As a research project, I studied and simulated a new design proposed for this system which uses a Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser, designed by Mitch Nahmias, a graduate student at Princeton University.
